When you write your story,

your life improves dramatically.

An unforgettable in-person workshop with
best-selling authors Allison Fallon and Donald Miller.

Why spend two
days learning to
write your story?

Most people feel a little lost inside their own story. They aren’t sure what their life means or how to leverage their experience to help others. Because they feel a little lost, they don’t have the positive impact in their community that they wish they could.

Write Your Story is a two-day, in-person workshop led by storytellers Donald Miller and Allison Fallon. The premise is simple: spend two days writing a story about something you’ve overcome and meditate on how that challenge transformed you and you will realize how strong and interesting you are. Why? Because people who believe in themselves and their story are better equipped to help others transform.

This intimate, two-day workshop will help you realize how much your life matters.

Why we’re keeping
this small:

We have both been able to write memoirs and have realized how much peace and health come when a person sits down to process the events of their lives. We want to share that experience with others.

We want to keep it small because sharing your story is an intimate experience. That’s why the event is limited to 50 people and only happens two or three times each year.

We’ll share new concepts that we haven’t talked about in other settings. And the small group will give all of us the breathing room to process what has happened in our lives, grow and find the inspiration to have an impact on others.

There is nothing more powerful than a person who understands their life and can share their story with the world.

Workshop Structure

Act 1:
The Challenge

Identify the challenge you’ve experienced that you’re going to write your story about.

Act 2:
The Fight

Explain how the fight to overcome that challenged changed your life and made you a better person.

Act 3:
The Transformation

Realize and own the fact that you are different so you can leave the old you behind.

We’ll teach you a simple, three-act framework to develop your story and finally write it.

Hi, I'm Ally.

I’m passionate about helping you write your story because I’ve personally experienced the healing it can bring.

When I went through a divorce years ago, I had no idea what to do next. I felt devastated that this was the direction my life had taken and frustrated that I couldn’t do more to “fix” it. The only thing I could think to do was the one thing I had been trained to do through my years of work in publishing.

I started writing.

At first, I did this as a way to track and remember what was happening since so many crazy details would unfold each day. But over time, the act of writing my story also helped me to see myself more clearly, to understand how I had contributed to the tough circumstance I was in, and ultimately to reshape the ending of my own story.

When I look back at that time in my life, I know writing my story saved me. It made the difference between bitterness and compassion, between being stuck and being free, between repeating my mistakes and being healed enough to create a new way forward.

Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of other everyday writers do the same. Our stories are all different but we have one thing in common: we’ve all overcome incredible obstacles and become stronger people because of them.

When you own your story, you understand your story. And when you understand your story, you see yourself as the remarkable person that you already are.

Hi, I'm Don.

Donald Miller

I first started writing about my life when I was 25. I’d taken a trip across the country in a Volkswagen van and wrote about the friendships and hiking challenges and all we learned about fixing Volkswagens. It was while writing that book that I realized I was a good writer, but that I also loved nature and had a real desire to explore ideas. Because I realized that while I was writing, it became more and more true.

Later, I wrote a book about how my personal faith had evolved from the more conservative fundamentalist upbringing I experienced as a kid. Writing that book helped me realize I still loved God and I loved people and it helped me understand more of who I was. It helped me realize my identity and become more comfortable in my identity.

After that I wrote more books and realized more things about myself and then I began to notice my identity was pretty solid while others around me were still trying to figure out who they were and why they mattered. I also noticed that if I screwed up some area of my life and then wrote about it, it helped me grow and become stronger.

Writing about my life has helped me enjoy life and enjoy myself. That’s why I want to help others write about their lives. When you write your story, you own your transformation and you take more pride in who you have become.

If a workshop registration is cancelled more than 30 days before the start of the workshop, it is 100% refundable and credited to the form of payment used in the initial transaction. If a workshop registration is cancelled fewer than 30 days before the start of a workshop, the fee is nonrefundable but a registration credit will be given to the attendee for future use. Since the workshop will be taking place at a private residence, we aren’t publishing the location of the venue. When you register, you’ll get all the details you need. For now, know that the workshop will be centrally located in Nashville in a beautiful and peaceful location.

We have reserved a hotel block for you close to the venue. The Courtyard Marriott Green Hills Nashville is offering a rate for you of $259/night — and we will provide FREE transportation from the hotel to (and from) the workshop each day. Click HERE to save your room.

We’ll start at 9am both Friday and Saturday. We’ll end at 5pm on Friday and 3pm on Saturday in case you’d like to fly home Saturday night. We recommend staying through until Sunday. We’ll provide recommendations for some fun things to do in the city Saturday night!

Just an open mind! We’ll provide everything you need. You might like to have a computer to take notes, but if you take notes the old fashioned way we’ll provide all the materials you need to do that.

Please! This is not a “writer’s” workshop. If you are ready to learn what makes your story so interesting, how to tell that story, and to use your story to inspire others, you’re the perfect fit!
